Welcome to the 2nd monthly edition of “Disney+ Snubs.” Each month after the “coming next month” list is released I’ll share the titles that are available or that have recently completed seasons that somehow didn’t make the list – AKA the SNUBS.
This is really awkward because it’s nearly the same list as last month as Disney continues to site on the the same seemingly available titles. One cool thing is September sees Vampirina Season 3 which had been on our August snubs list!
This incredible Disney Channel Original Movie that aired in August is being held back until November 12th. However, the plot thickens. Australia is getting it September 3rd. It makes sense since they don’t have Disney Channel but it could end up being a surprise add on September 3rd. If not, our November 12th date is accurate.
Parental Guidance (2012)
Despite leaving HBO in 1 week, this “family comedy” is not on the September list. Let’s get it. Disney+ doesn’t have enough of these.
The Simpsons (1989 – Present)
This sucks! In July we revealed the “premiere date” for The Simpsons Season 32 (last week of September) but it did not make it on the September list. Awkward. Apologies. We will not trust that source anymore. Despite the new season premiering in September the old season won’t arrive until October. This is definitely a snub now and something DIsney needs to get under control. Why can’t the Simpsons window collapse like the other shows they air..?
Ad Astra (2019)
Leaving Cinemax in one week.
Breakthrough (2019), Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Like last month, Disney’s handling of the Fox library is weird. X-Men: Dark Phoenix is coming in September but these films left HBO prior to X-Men and are still MIA. Our latest theory is they are being held for a November 12th “Disney+ Day” drop. If Disney wanted to do that they would need to save up noteworthy films and 2019 Fox films are noteworthy just in that they’d be the most recent available in the USA thanks to the awful HBO deal which gratefully ends next year! Ad Astra would likely be included in this theoretical drop.
Art of Racing in the Rain (2019)
We wait another month on this title which left HBO a month after X-Men Dark Phoenix. If you’re wondering why all the films leaving HBO / Cinemax this year are from 2012 or 2019 I introduce you to the world of licensing deals, pay windows, and output deals. Educate yourself. Spoiler: the films leaving HBO and coming to Disney+ next year will be from 2013 and 2020. Does that help?
Home Alone 4 (2002) and 5 (2012)
Both films leave HBO August 31st. Pretty confident both films are being saved for November 12th to drop alongside Home Sweet Home Alone and usher in the holiday streamson.
Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book (1994)
Copy paste from last month – Left HBO’s library deal April 1st. One of few Disney Pictures films from the 90’s still missing. Seems a sure-fire addition in the future but is weirdly absent globally…
Dick Tracy (1990)
Still vaulted since leaving HBO in April. It’s PG! Let’s add it!
Bridge to Terabithia (2007)
Left HBO’s library deal March 1st. Already streaming in other countries since early 2020.
All Vintage Animated Shorts, Serials, Specials, and Films (1920-1990)
Would you expect anything else?
Some of these are the same last month since Disney isn’t making good progress on their snubs. Hopefully a bunch are added in October although I have a bad feeling October’s list of snubs will be all the Halloween titles they keep vaulted…
